NEWSFLASH: An Important Summer Update

SUMMER TIMES

The Summer Theme: Here Comes the Sun is the theme of the Summer. We are going to be talking about various stories and Bible passages that reference the Sun in some way. The emphasis will be on God's creative power and the fact that He is the Light! Each Sunday the kids will have a summer fun snack as well.

Services: KidsROCK is going to be on for most Sundays in the Summer. But it is important to note that there are no KidsROCK services available here at Highview on July 24th or on July 31st. There will be things happening for families on these days. Please see the flyer at Highview entitled "Special Summer Services" for details.

THE SUMMER SCHEDULE IS POSTED FOR VOLUNTEERS

Thank you for meeting the needs of the Highview children throughout the Summer! Ministry still happens throughout the course of the Summer and your help with that is appreciated. The Summer Schedule has been posted for those helping on Sunday morning for Pebbles Nursery and Cornerstone. The schedule can be found on the cork board in the Lower Level. Please try to switch with people if you have a schedule conflict and inform Ian Peers of any switches - especially for Cornerstone!

IAN'S VACATION

Renee and I will be away on vacation for three weeks in July (From July 11 – August 1). If you have any questions about our Children’s Ministries programs and events please contact me before July 10th or after August 1st. If you are taking vacation time over the course of the Summer, we hope that you have a restful and fun time.

A Skit + Fathers Day Craft + Miniute to Win It Games = UNBELIEVABLE FUN

We have the best math equation on the planet that is going to help us have a blast on Sunday June 19th, 2011. Check out three reasons to come to our Cornerstone (JK-Gr5) service this Sunday:

1) A Amazing Skit: Poppy B, Keith W, and Lauren A are performing in a skit that will help encourage us to use our God given potential for others.

2) A Fathers Day Card: We have a unique card that children will make for there Fathers this Sunday. See picture below for a sample.

3) Minute to Win It Games: We have several challenges where children will have 60 seconds to complete a task. These are fun games that are geared to children of all ages and they are loads of FUN!

“MINUTE TO WIN IT” – KIDS VERSION

WERE EVERY CHILD WILL DISCOVER THEY ARE “MEANT TO LIVE”

Sunday, June 12 to 26, 2011

We are going into a three week series to inspire children to fully experience all the possibilities God has locked up inside them.

A long time ago God called Moses to do something HUGE by helping the people of Israel get out of major trouble in Egypt. He did not feel like he was able to do the task but God helped him discover that he could. God asks each child to know they are meant to live for Him. Even though children may not always feel like they are able to do this God will show them the way!

Children are going to discover that they all have talents they have been given by God. One fun way we are going to explore this is through the thrilling game “Minute To Win It” where children are going to have tasks to complete in under 60 seconds.

Series is Based On: Exodus 3:1-4:17 – Moses’ Reluctance

At the end of the series, we will want children to:

1. Know – It’s possible for them to have impact
2. Feel – Inspired to make an impact
3. Do – Explore the next step to increase their impact

Memory Verse:
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. - Jeremiah 29:11-12

A Soul Craving For Nerf Gun Adventure

What does the soul of a child crave?

One easy answer is ADVENTURE!

Children's imagination is alive and lights up at the possibility of an epic adventure. We can see this in all the video games and movies for children out there. We are going to go on a Nerf Gun Adventure

For the next three Sundays we are going to explore "Soul Cravings" for children through the theme of "Fighting the Good Fight of Faith"

The Memory Verse - 2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

Fighting the Good Fight for the Lord starts when we FIGHT SIN and FIGHT DOUBT. But we can only do this when we FIGHT WITH GOD’S STRENGTH.

For the first two Sundays children are going to have different targets that represent sin and doubt and they are going to use NERF GUNS to take them out!

These are the three main points we want the children to discover:
1) May 15, Fighting the Good Fight of Faith means we will Fight Sin in Our Lives
2) May 22, Fighting the Good Fight of Faith means we will Fight Doubt in Our Lives
3) May 29, Fighting the Good Fight of Faith means we will Fight Sin and Doubt with God’s Strength

PARENTS PLEASE NOTE: Children will not be making targets out of each other! Children also don't need to bring their own nerf guns. We have all we need

It's Not Easy Being the World's Future

We are in a "Kids Matter" series here at Highview. We believe that children are important and develop our Children's Ministries around this truth.

This coming Sunday we are not having any service in the Lower Level for children. We are all going to be together and engage some fun activities and stations together. We're all going to explore how it isn't easy for children to be the world's future and what we can do to help!

CANS: Please don't forget your food cans this Sunday! We need it for a station and it is going to the "Fill A Freight Truck" project.

  • LAST KIDMO NIGHT: Thursday, April 14th will be our last mid-week program night for Kidmo from 6:45-8:15pm. We are going to celebrate all that God has done through this program with an awesome party! All who have attended Kidmo are welcome

  • EASTER CELEBRATION: We have a dynamic program planned for children on Easter Sunday, April 24th. Children are going to make Jesus Tomb, explore Jesus' resurrection, and have a fun "Find the Stone" game.

What is happening for our SUMMER MINISTRY?

We would like to plan a day camp from 9am-3pm for the week of August 22-26th where all the registration donations that come in would go to our Hot Springs Orphans in Thailand. The curriculum is out of this world (literally) and our plans are AWESOME. We are having difficultty finding adult leaders to help with this program so we are not taking registrations yet until we have what we need to launch the program. If you know someone who is 18 or 18+ who would like to volunteer for this week please let us know.

A New Wave of Ideas & Prayer

A new wave of ideas and prayer happened in the beginning of the year. Lots of ideas are happening to enhance the Sunday morning service for the children of Highview. Prayer has been lifted up for our community. What an amazing wave to ride!

PRAYER & FLYER DISTRIBUTION: The prayer night on Thursday January 6th was awesome. We got 300 flyers out, prayed for the community, and had a great time. There was lots of snow but it was beautful.

KIDMO: Kidmo launched this past Thursday. We did a camp fire craft that was lots of fun. Stay tuned for pictures. Some new interest is happening with other kids in the community. Please be praying that God would use this reach children's hearts and lives.

KIDSROCK: A new scheduling philosophy is beginning to develop. If you are involved in volunteering on Sunday morning for Cornerstone or Pebbles Nursery please come to a meeting right after the service on Sunday January 16th at 11:45am in the Lower Level to talk more about the new idea and what it all means.

Flyers & Prayers

2011! Can you believe it's here? Stay tuned for details about the amazing year God has in store for the Children's Ministries of Highview.

Close to 300 flyers went out to our Immediate Neighbourhood to promote Kidmo, Momstown, and Launch Student Ministries. We had a great time of prayer, fellowship, and discussion as well. Please be praying that the people in the Immediate Neighbourhood of Highview will connect with us through the flyers we sent out.

Kidmo starts up again on Thursday, January 13th

KidsROCK starts up again this Sunday (Jan 9th). Very exciting things happening!
